Andy Hilford is a psychologist who specializes in the study of memory. He received his doctorate from New York University. Before focusing on memory, Andy was employed as a writer/creative director for several different companies. After college, he worked as a screenwriter for an independent production company in Los Angeles. Later, he handled the creative efforts of a sportswear company where he wrote everything from hang tags to commercials. He was a cofounder of an Internet retailing company at which he conceived, wrote, and managed creative projects including print and radio ads, marketing, and branding. Andy has been fascinated by narratives and memories. As a researcher he focuses on understanding how memory works. As a writer, father, son, and grandson he has been fascinated with people's stories.
Susan Hilford is a physical therapist who has worked in both adult and pediatric settings with a recent emphasis in newborn care. She received a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from Columbia University. Before taking time off from her career to raise two children, she primarily worked in a neonatal intensive care unit. In this capacity, Susan worked with infants to help them achieve their developmental milestones. She also worked with parents and grandparents to help them nurture and support their babies. Susan has enjoyed working with people and has always been intrigued by the stories they have shared.
Andy and Susan's combined interests and fascinations led to writing The Grandmother Book, a fun, engaging, and thought- provoking book that captures the essence of an interesting life lived.
Andy and Susan's two children have a total of three grandmothers whose roots range from China to Europe.
